yes it snows in australia in the mountains in new south wales & victoria & in tasmania sometimes the other parts of the country dont get snow weter comes from rivers & dams like everywhere else

Much of the East coast of Australia gets snow, but only in alpine regions, generally away from the major cities.

Most of the water supplies are from regular catchment areas and I'm certainly not aware of desalinisation being an issue.
